Communion: A Seat at the Table

Oct 12, 2025    Ben Pippen

In this powerful communion message, we explore how a simple question at the Last Supper—“Is it I, Lord?”—reveals the difference between knowing about Jesus and truly making Him Lord of our lives. Through the story of Jesus breaking bread and sharing the cup, we’re invited to pause, reflect, and lay down anything that stands between us and Him. In a world filled with noise, division, and distraction, communion calls us back to unity, surrender, and grace. This isn’t just a ritual; it’s a moment of honest reflection and powerful connection with Christ and His church.

Discussion Questions

1. The message began by talking about shared language and experiences that bring people together. What are some words, traditions, or practices that help you feel connected to your church community?

2. Communion is described as both a symbol of unity and a moment of reflection. Why do you think God calls us to remember Him through something so simple as bread and a cup?

3. In Matthew 26, each disciple asked, “Is it I, Lord?” Why do you think Jesus invited that moment of self-examination among His followers?

4. The message highlighted the difference between calling Jesus “Lord” and “Rabbi.” What might it look like in everyday life for someone to treat Jesus as their Lord rather than just their teacher?

5. Before taking communion, we’re invited to lay down anything standing between us and Jesus. What are some practical ways we can regularly examine our hearts and stay in unity with Christ and others throughout the week?
