Sabbath: Finding Rest in a Restless World

Jul 13, 2025    Julie Lehman

We’re constantly pushed to do more, achieve more, and stay endlessly busy—leaving little space to breathe, let alone be renewed. But what if the very act of stopping isn’t just a pause, but a powerful way to push back against the noise? What if rest is how we remember who we truly are and who God has always been? There’s a quiet strength in stillness, a kind of freedom that doesn’t come from doing, but from simply being. Reclaiming the sacred rhythm of rest might be the most transformative decision we make.

Group Discussion Questions:

1. What does rest typically look like for you, and how often do you feel truly rested—physically, emotionally, and spiritually?

2. When you think about the idea of Sabbath, what emotions or thoughts come up—resistance, guilt, longing, peace? Why do you think that is?

3. Jesus invites us in Matthew 11:28-30 to come to Him for rest. What does that kind of rest look like in your life right now? What might it look like if you really trusted Him with your burdens?

4. How does your current pace of life reflect (or challenge) your trust in God's provision and presence?

5. What would it look like for you to begin practicing Sabbath in a meaningful way, either for the first time or in a renewed way? What specific steps could you take this week to begin?

6. How might regularly embracing rest not only affect your own life but also impact your relationships, your work, and your witness to others?
