Fasting to Feasting
What if the key to a deeper relationship with Jesus isn’t adding more—but giving something up? In this message, titled “Fasting to Feasting,” we wrap up our series on spiritual disciplines by exploring the often-overlooked practice of fasting. Through personal stories (including grandkids, Italian feasts, and giving up sports), biblical examples, and real-life applications, we’re invited to consider: What might happen if we made space in our daily lives—not just our schedules—to truly be with Jesus? Whether it’s food, phones, or distractions, fasting isn’t about deprivation—it’s about substitution. Trading the temporary for the eternal. Subtracting noise to feast on presence.

2. Fasting was defined as “putting aside a daily practice in order to make room for a deeper relationship with Jesus.” What is one thing in your daily life that you might consider setting aside—even for a short time—to create space for God?
3. Jesus said, “When you fast…” not “If you fast…” Why do you think fasting is so neglected in the Christian life, even though it has such strong biblical support? What holds people (or you personally) back from trying it?
4. The message emphasized that fasting helps us reflect on our relationship with God (upward), ourselves (inward), and others (outward). Which of those three areas do you feel God is inviting you to focus on right now—and why?
5. Have you ever practiced fasting before (from food, screens, sports, etc.)? If so, what did you experience during that time? If not, what would it look like to start small this week—and what would be your motivation for doing it?
