What is your Story?
We all carry stories—some we’re proud of, others marked by shame—and yet Jesus meets us right in the middle of them. In John 4, a broken, overlooked woman encounters Jesus at a well and leaves transformed, so much so that her story leads an entire town to believe. This message explores how her encounter contrasts with Nicodemus, what it means to leave our “water jugs” of guilt and sin behind, and how the most powerful tool we have for evangelism is simply sharing our own story of what Jesus has done.
Discussion Questions
1. The woman left her water jar behind after meeting Jesus. What might that symbolize for us today? What kinds of “water jugs” do people often carry?
2. The woman at the well went from avoiding people to running into town to tell everyone about Jesus. What do you think gave her that courage?
3. Her simple testimony — “Come and see” — led many others to believe. Why do you think personal stories are so powerful in pointing people to Jesus?
4. If you had to describe one way Jesus has made a difference in your life, what would you say? (You don’t need to share the whole story, just one glimpse.)
5. If you were to invite someone to “come and see” Jesus today, what setting would you choose — a worship service, small group, a conversation over coffee? Why?
