Being Light in the Darkness
Darkness can feel overwhelming—whether it’s the physical darkness of a long night, the emotional weight of fear and shame, or the spiritual shadows of sin and selfishness. In those moments, our minds often race to the worst possibilities, and we can feel trapped and alone. Yet Scripture reminds us that light has come into the world, and in Christ, we don’t have to remain in the shadows. The light of Jesus not only exposes what’s hidden but also brings hope, freedom, and the power to live differently. When we choose to step into that light, we find strength, healing, and the presence of God guiding us forward.
Discussion Questions:
1. John 3:19–20 says people often prefer darkness because they fear their deeds being exposed. Why do you think it’s so difficult to step into the light? What kinds of fears or barriers hold people back?
2. The message highlighted that darkness often shows up in subtle ways like unforgiveness, gossip, or hidden struggles. Which of these “everyday shadows” do you think the church struggles with most, and why?
3. Have you ever experienced the relief of bringing something hidden into the light—through confession, prayer, or accountability? How did that change your relationship with God or others?
4. Spiritual disciplines like prayer, Scripture, and community help us walk in the light. Which discipline do you find most life-giving right now, and which one do you find hardest to practice?
5. We were challenged to think about how living in the light impacts our relationships. What would it look like for you personally to be more open, honest, and “in the light” with others this week?
